The Department of Interior and Local Governments – Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DILG-ARMM) in the Islamic City of Marawi held Sunday at the Grand Ballroom of Elena Tower, here, a Barangay LGU Enhancement Training in preparation for the rebuilding of the City that suffered tremendous damage due to the armed conflict that resulted from the siege by the Maute Group of terrorists influenced by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) which started last May 23.
ARMM-DILG Director for Marawi Norhaine N. Marohombsar told RSP that the Training aimed to refresh the participants and enhance their capabilities to perform their duties as officials in their respective barangays.
She said that the training program included such topics as Governance, Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Response, Countermeasures against Radicalism, Anti-Illegal Drugs Campaign, Protection of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and other sub-topics.
Towards the end of the training program, the participants had a workshop where groups presented their plans of action to undertake in their respective barangays in connection with the different topics they took up in the training program, she added.
A young AFP Officer presented a situation report on the ongoing battle of Marawi where he said that no one can tell when the fighting will be over.
However, he said that it is important for all to prepare because as the crisis is getting longer, relief assistance is diminishing thus development must start so that the IDPs can cope with the situation.
Finally, he said that the fight against terrorism is not the job of the AFP and the PNP only but all Filipinos must help.
The said training program was a joint project of the Philippine National Police, DILG-ARMM, AFP, Local Government of Marawi City and the LIGA ng Mga Barangay ng Pilipinas. (RSP)
