12 Public Schools in Marawi Hold Classes

ILIGAN CITY – Twelve public schools in Marawi City have started holding classes, a high official of the DepEd, Marawi City Division of City Schools announced Saturday, September 9.

Guesting in the program PAGHIUSA SA LANAO of Sarimanok Press Club at Prime News, 88.1, FM, Radio Iligan, Marawi Assistant Division Superintendent of Schools Anna Zenaida “Chekee” Unte-Alonto disclosed that the said schools are situated in areas already cleared by the AFP.

Chekee added that she had also personally inspected the said schools and saw that these were not affected by the fighting in the City.

She named the schools that have opened as: Sultan Conding Elementary School, Sikap Elementary School, Camp Bagong Amaipakpak Elementary School, Abdulazis Elementary School, Bito Elementary School, Rorogagus Elementary School, Mipaga Elementary School, Pendolonan Elementary School, Cabingan Primary School, Banga Primary School, Datu Tambak Etado Primary School and Sugod Central Elementary School.

Speaking in Maranao, she called on parents of pupils of the said schools who may have evacuated and are now in evacuation centers or the homes of relatives that they may coordinate with the principals so that they could be assisted to secure Passes from the AFP at Lanao del Sur Provincial Capitol and return to the said barangays.

She also called parents whose children may have enrolled in schools in the localities where they have evacuated to transfer their children back to Marawi only when the situation in that City shall have normalized.

She mentioned in the radio program that around 1,000 teachers of the Marawi Schools Division had to undergo Psychosocial Training in Cagayan de Oro due to their experience during the siege so that they will also be ready to deal with the children when their schools reopen.

Psychosocial Interventions by trained personnel have also been done to school children in temporary classrooms in the evacuation centers, she concluded.
