TESDA offers free massive training of Marawi evacuees

The massive training of Marawi IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons) formally opened Sunday during the Massive Training Induction Program and Training Demonstration for IDPs held at the Auditorium of the Iligan City National High School here.

Director Lorenzo G. Macapili, DTE, Regional Director of TESDA-Region 10, welcomed participants and visitors to the program.

Provincial Director Tarhata S. Mapandi, CESE, of TESDA-Lanao del Norte gave an Overview of the Massive Training Induction Program.

She said that the government has launched this free training of IDPs in preparation for the rebuilding of Marawi City and for the trainees to learn livelihood and industrial skills that will enable them to qualify for employment here and abroad.

She added that the trainees will also be receiving transportation allowances while on training.

Rey V. Eboras, President of TVAIL, Lanao del Norte presented demonstrations by qualified trainers on Beauty Care, Massage Theraphy/Hilot, Haircutting and Bread and Pastry Production.

It was explained that demonstrations on the other courses such as Carpentry, Masonry, Bricklaying, Plumbing, Electrical Installation and other industrial skills were not included because these need to be conducted in the Work Shops.

TESDA Director General Atty. Guiling Mamondiong gave a heartwarming message of hope that Marawi can rise again. 

He also expressed that, “for the first time the Muslims of Marawi City are supported by Christians in their difficulties where they are settled in Iligan.”

It was learned that hundreds of thousands of Maranaos are now in evacuation centers and homes of relatives in Iligan.

Mamondiong asked the IDPs to thank Mayor Celso G. Regencia of Iligan not only for his full support of the Training Program but also of his instructions to Barangay Captains that the evacuees must be provided with full protection from harm while in Iligan.

He also mentioned that the Massive Skills Training Program is only a part of the Comprehensive Reform and Development Agenda of the government for the Restoration of the Marawi City.

He said that it is time for all Muslims and Christians to unite for the rebuilding of Marawi now that Rodrigo R. Duterte, a Christian of Maranao blood is the President of the Republic of the Philippines.

In his message of hope given on behalf of ARMM Governor Mujiv Hataman, Chief of Staff and concurrent ARRM TESDA Director Atty. Rasul Mitmug, exhorted the IDPs to make use of the opportunity given by the government to help improve the lives of the people of Marawi and Lanao del Sur.

Jehann U. Mutin, CESE, Chairperson, RCBW-ARMM closed the program calling the beginning of the training activities this week.
