27 unidentified cadavers finally buried in Marawi

Twenty-seven unidentified bodies were finally buried at a Muslim cemetery in Marawi City on Monday. They were victims of the on-going Marawi siege.

Giving the victims a decent burial at Makbara Muslim cemetery in Brgy. Papandayan, Marawi City was a joint effort of the City of Marawi under Mayor Majul Gandamra, the province of Lanao del Sur headed by Governor Soraya Adiong, the Lanao del Sur provincial office of the Department of Interior and Local Government of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DILG-ARMM) headed by Provincial Director McMillan Lucman, the Philippine National Police, the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Bureau of Fire Protection-Lanao del Sur.

Macbara Cemetery is the first public cemetery ever provided by the government where to bury the deads of the locals. It was realized as a project of then Lanao del Sur Governor Aleem Bashier Manalao.

Sometimes last month, eleven unidentified dead bodies were buried at a public but Christian cemetery in Iligan City. Media reports they were killed as the air and land offensives by the government continued in Marawi.

Most of the dead bodies were brought to Capin Funeral Parlor here since May 25, two days after the Marawi siege.

Among the eleven cadavers was an unidentified young girl.

There were 20 of them, Antonio Flores, chief of the community affairs office of Iligan LGU, told the media

The cadavers were being transferred from the funeral homes to the mass funeral at Dalipuga Public Cemetery. (TNRS)
