Misamis Oriental vies for 2017 good governance award
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, April 27 – The provincial government of Misamis Oriental is optimistic on winning the 2017 “Seal of Good Local Governance” (SGLG) to post a “back-to-back” victory of the coveted award it won in 2016.
”The provincial government of Misamis Oriental is now 85 percent compliant with the requirements set by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to qualify for the SGLG annual award,” Stanley B. Uriarte, the provincial planning and development coordinator, said Thursday.
He said that Misamis Oriental would again likely qualify for the award in terms of financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, peace and order, business amiability and competitiveness.
Uriarte said that the province has already complied with the requirements set for environmental management and tourism, culture and the arts.
According to Uriarte, Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano always wants to win the annual SGLG award because of the projects, mostly infrastructures worth millions of pesos, that accompany the SGLG award package.
Uriarte said that winning the SGLG seal is not easy because the proponent has to really work hard to win the SGLG award. Misamis Oriental was the recipient of the 2015 SGLG award given last year.
On June 1 to 2, the DILG Northern Mindanao regional assessment team would make its final recommendation to the DILG Central Office whether or not the Misamis Oriental provincial government is qualified for the award.
The assessment for the 2017 SGLG award has four core areas: business friendliness and competitiveness; tourism, culture and the arts; environmental protection; and, peace and order.
