MANILA, April 4, 2017 -- Some 1,000 lucky women who participated in the President’s “Digong’s Day for Women” received free skills training opportunities from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) last Friday, March 31, at the Kalayaan Grounds in Malacañang.

TESDA Director General, Secretary Guiling “Gene” Mamondiong, said the fortunate recipients of the scholarship slots came from different sectors of society.

During the occasion, each of the 1,000 women were given their respective certificates of commitment that will allow them or their relatives to avail of free skills training from TESDA.

“They can use these certificates of commitment to take any course under TESDA’s Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP),” according to Mamondiong.

President Rodrigo Duterte himself led the “Digong’s Day for Women” event, which was organized by TESDA, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Tourism (DOT), Department of Transportation (DOTr), Department of Health (DOH) and other government agencies.

“TESDA will continue to support the President’s programs, particularly those which will give much needed and suitable technical vocational education and skills training for our citizens,” added the TESDA Chief.

He also said that it is TESDA’s objective to uplift the lives of every Filipino family, particularly those in remote areas, through the provision of free and accessible skills training, in order for them to find gainful employment or establish profitable livelihood.

Further, Mamondiong invited those who wished to avail of free skills training to visit the nearest TESDA Office or log on to the agency’s website at www.tesda.gov.ph for more information.
