VP Leni launches ‘Angat Buhay’ Program in Marawi

“Angat Buhay,” the program under the Office of the Vice President of the Philippines was launched here, March 21 at the Social Hall of the Lanao del Sur Provincial Capitol.

Vice President Leni Robredo graced the occasion, hosted by the Provincial Government under Governor Bedjoria A. Adiong who was represented during the occasion by Vice Governor Mamintal, Adiong Jr.

In her message she said, “Angat Buhay” is the culmination of our hard work for the first 100 days in Office and the fulfillment of our promise to establish and effective and collaborative framework for poverty alleviation.”

She said that upon her assumption of the Office of the Vice President of the Philippines, she immediately studied the functions of her office and found that she could do more for the betterment of the lives of the poor families especially in the rural areas.

“Our office has the smallest budget in the government. However, we can make use of what we have for the attainment of our objectives,” she asserted.

She said that as an alternative Lawyer for the poor, the heart of her leadership calls for those who are in the position of strength to protect those are weak, for those who are in the position of privilege to put the needs of the marginalized over themselves and for those who are in positions of power to serve those who are vulnerable.

“We cannot be politicking all the time. We must serve those who need our service much more,” she told the applauding audience.

She said that considering its limited budget, her office has developed partnerships with the other offices and non-government organizations in carrying out programs for the poor.

“The task we took upon ourselves is herculean in nature for it requires the alignment and participation of all stakeholders. We all have to unite in this journey, for genuine people empowerment requires the convergence of the national and local governments as well as the private sector and civil society organizations to solve age-old of social injustice, poverty and inequality,” she concluded.

Robredo also attended the launching of the same activity in the remote municipality of Tangkal, Lanao del Norte and an event organized by a Women’s Organization in Marawi City earlier on that day. TNRS
