TESDA eyes to incorporate skills training into madrasa schools

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) announced that skills training will be incorporated in the curriculum of Madrasa schools to provide additional knowledge to its graduates.
TESDA Director General Guiling Mamondiong announced last week in Zamboanga City that the move aims to help the graduates land jobs after studying in Madrasa schools.
Mamondiong said that Madrasa graduates have difficulty in finding jobs since they only learn Arabic language and how to pray while studying.
“Through the grant of scholarship to them (Madrasa students)," said Mamondiong, "we will cooperate with them in converting their Madrasa schools into training centers. So it is going to be Madrasa and skills training center.”
He said that there are around 220 Madrasa schools in Region 9 and in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
Mamondiong said that skills training will be incorporated in the day-to-day teachings in Madrasa schools once the system is in place.
He said TESDA has allocated 95,000 scholarship slots for ARMM and Region 9. Of the total, 60,000 slots are for the autonomous region and the remaining 35,000 for Region 9.
He said Madrasa students can avail of the scholarship slots to study and to earn skills.
Mamondiong and TESDA Deputy Director General Alvin Feliciano visited Zamboanga City on Thursday and met with concerned stakeholders of the agency. (With story from PNA)
