Floods hit Lanao del Sur towns

KAPAI, LUMBA-BAYABAO, MAGUING, MASIU, POONA BAYABAO, AND TARAKA.

At least nine towns in the province of Lanao del Sur have been reportedly affected by heavy flooding caused by the tail-end of a cold front which was also experienced in other parts of Mindanao leaving casualties and damages worth millions of pesos.

Reports reaching Ranao Star said most affected towns in the province are Buadipuso-Buntong, Bubong, Ditsaan Ramain, Kapai, Lumba-Bayabao, Maguing, Masiu, Poona Bayabao, and Taraka.

Initial report said some 8,900 families were affected.

Residents in flooded barangays of the affected towns temporarily evacuated to some schools and madrasah in nearby safe places.

Fortunately, no casualty or major injury was reported.

Lanao del Sur Provincial Information Office (PIO) told the media that provincial officials held an emergency meeting on Wednesday night, January 18, to tackle floods and landslides in Marawi and some municipalities in the province.

It said four dump trucks were on standby since 9:30 pm on Wednesday to assist the residents.

Lanao del Sur Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) chief Tatar Boriongan reported an initial damage of P10 million to agriculture and infrastructure.
