NCCA has P35-million grants for arts and culture projects in Mindanao
DAVAO CITY September 8 - The National Commission for the Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is inviting interested parties to submit proposals for arts and culture projects in Mindanao.
The NCCA has about P35-million budget for grants available for the region.
NCCA Section head Renee Talavera said the P35-million is good for 98 projects sites for different categories.
Mindanao is getting a large share from the P120-million allocated for NCCA grants across the country.
In contrast Luzon is getting P30-million.
Last year’s budget for Mindanao was at P20-million. Talavera said the geographical coverage necessitated the huge chunk of the budget.
NCCA launched its call for proposals at a press conference followed by a write shop for prospective takers held last September 2 at Grand Regal Hotel in Davao City.
The projects can be in line with the different strategies for the region among these include support for community managed heritage conservation or ecotourism site, Mindanao Indigenous Peoples Summit and Regional Assemblies, promotion Mindanao culture, arts and heritage program, Mindanao Summit on Culture and the Arts, Kalintad Mindanao focused in Indigenous Dispute Resolution, sub-regional festivals on culture, heritage and the arts, production of new creative works, cultural studies and cultural exchange.
Other strategies where NCCA can provide grants are Mindanao Regional Culture and Arts Centers, assistance for LGUs on establishment of guidelines for built-environment, Mindanao indigenous creative response on disaster risk reduction and management, youth-oriented and culture-focused formation program in the Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao and Indigenous Peoples areas, Mindanao capability building creative skills share.
Talavera said the slots have been expanded yet it will be competitive as the NCCA is keen on providing grants to persons or groups who has the capacity to create the projects this to ensure the completion of the projects that would benefit the region.
The grants are sourced from the NCCA’s National Endowment Fund which is taken from 10% of the travel tax.
The proposals will face scrutiny and evaluation to ensure the proponents’ capacity to implement these projects.
