DAVAO CITY – Moro leader Abul Khayr Alonto, who heads a faction of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), has been named chair of the Mindanao Development Authority (Minda).
The appointment of Alonto makes three Maranao leaders to be in the cabinet of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Earlier, Duterte appointed Atty. Guiling Mamondiong as Director General of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
He also appointed Atty. Abdullah Mamao as Presidential Assistant for Overseas Workers.
Media reported the appointment of the three Maranao leaders was hailed by the Muslims especially the Maranao community.
Alonto, former Marawi City vice mayor, and speaker of the then Lupon Tagapagpaganap ng Pook (LTP), now Regional Legislative Assembly, reorganized the MNLF with some of the Front’s Top 90 members and ousted Nur Misuari sometimes in 2014.
Minda is Malacañang’s socioeconomic development arm for Mindanao.
It was created through Republic Act 9996 or the Mindanao Development Authority Act of 2010 and succeeded the Mindanao Economic Development Council (Medco).
Minda also represents the Philippines in the sub-regional economic grouping, Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-the Philippines East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-Eaga)
