Refresher Training on Nutriskwela Community Radio, Radyo Kalambuan hits the ground running

Tubod Lanao Del Norte -- A four day (4) Refresher Training on Nutriskwela Community Radio was conducted at Mindanao Civic Center (MCC) Tubod Lanao Del Norte on 30 May – 02 June 2016.

Department of Health’s NNC has partnered with the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte in the establishment of Nutriskwela Community Radio Network Program, Radyo Kalambuan, DXNE 94.3 FM which aims to empower communities through the establishment of community radio station that will disseminate nutrition, health and development-oriented information to community members.

One of the activities in the establishment of the community radio station is the conduct of trainings and community radio broadcasting in two phases.

The first phase is the National Training involving all the 5 station personnel of the new stations.

The second phase is the area-based training on broadcasting using community radio to refresh knowledge and skills of the members of the Community Radio Council and station personnel of selected radio station.

This hands-on- training on community radio broadcasting is part of the capacity building aspects of the Nutriskwela Community Radio Network Program.

Around 32 participants had attended the refresher training that included the station manager of Radio Kalmbuan Mr. Raul D. Dinapo with other anchors and members of the Community Radio Council who are actively involved in the management of the radio station and members of the Community Radio Council and representatives of various sectors from the local government, the academe, health, social welfare, senior citizen, youth and among others.

The training team is composed of experts in the field of broadcasting and technical staff from the National Nutrition Council.

Resource speakers of the 'Refresher Training on Nutriskwela Community Radio' Radyo Kalambuan are: : Mr Louie N. Tabing, DZMM-ABS-CBN Broadcast ting Corp, Founder-Tambuli Foundation; Mr Francis 'KIKO' J. Flores, Project Director, MQ MediaZone; Mr Andy T. Vital, MQ MediaZone; Mr Ricky Siwagan, MQ MediaZone; Ms Mackay V. Quadra, Managing Director, MQ MediaZone, Ms Marilou R. Enteria, Nutrition Officer, National Nutrition Council (NNC), Ms Marissa DM. Navales, NNC-Region X, and Mr Raul D. Dinapo, Station Manager-Radyo Kalambuan, DXNE 94.3 FM.

The training started with an overview of the Nutriskwela Community Radio Network Program by Ms. Marilou R. Enteria followed by the Nutriskwela Editorial Policy and Station policy presented by Ms. Makay V. Quadra while Station Manager Raul D. Dinapo delivered the current status and challenges of the Nutriskwela Station.

Mr. Andy T. Vidal discussed on writing for radio and field reporting ending up with a workshop on writing sample scripts, news and nutritional plugs, generating data/information for news. While Mr. Francis J. Flores and Mr. Ricky Siwagan talked on the broadcasting equipment and trouble shooting and the preparation of the signal map.

The four day training included basic sound recording and editing, recording of station ID, Production of Advocacy/Public services announcement and how to record programs using the digital recorder.

Participants were made to board on news room for hands-on equipment manipulation and live broadcasting at Nutriskwela Community Radio, Radio Kalambuan, DXNE 94.3.

On the last day of the refresher training, participants were be able to assess the operation of the radio station to identify strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for improvement that will be used as basis for preparing a three-year plan for the station.

The Nutriskwela Community Radio Network Program of the National Nutrition Council was created to direct the need for a long-term and efficient strategy to address the problem of hunger and malnutrition in the Philippine’s through the use of radio that will disseminate health and development-oriented information and inform the listening public about government efforts in addressing hunger and malnutrition and related issues in their respective community.

To date, the National Nutrition Council (NNC) has established 35 Nutriskwela community radio stations nationwide in partnership with local government units and state colleges and universities.
