First 4 editions of Shakespeare’s plays sold for $3.5m
A set of the first four editions of William Shakespeare’s plays has been sold for over three and a half million dollars.
The works of the legendary English playwright have been published as a collection of plays in 1623, known as the First Folio.
It contains 36 plays, 18 of which had not previously been printed. The folio and later editions, published in 1632, 1664, and 1685, make the four folios which the Christie’s auction house names as the Holy Grail of publishing.
