ILIGAN CITY – Over a thousand families who survived Typhoon Sendong and were resettled at Iligan Bayanihan Villiage in Barangay Santa Elena, this City, finally have abundant water supply.

An P18-Million water supply project funded from the National Calamity fund was inaugurated and turned over to the beneficiaries last March.

It was learned that the project materialized through the efforts of Lone District of Iligan City Congressman Vicente “Varf” F. Belmonte, Jr.

Engr. Rey Peter B. Gille, District Engr., DPWH Region 10 who implemented the project in coordination with Iligan City Waterworks System (ICWS), said that because of Belmonte’s continuous appeal and request to the National Government, the project was granted.

“The project started last December 4, 2014 and was completed on July 1, 2015. There were delays due to road right of way problems.” Eng. Gille explained.

The inauguration and turnover was also delayed by the interconnection of the project to the ICWS main line.

“Now the residents of the resettlement site will start having sufficient water flow in their home faucets,” Gille added.

In an exclusive interview by Atty. Rejoice Sobejano at Love Radio 107 Iligan, a resident at Bayanihan Village said, “Dako mi ug pasalamat kang Congressman kay karon dili na mi mabilar ug sag-ob ug tubig (We greatly thank the Congressman because now we would not stay awake all night waiting for water to flow into our faucets).
