Opinion: The General Welfare
The sole and only reason for government to exist is the general welfare of all the people and the creatures on earth.
It was the reason why the Almighty creator put Adam in the Garden of Eden.
And the reason why there were patriarch, prophets, Kings, Emperors, Presidents, Prime Ministers, etc. in history.
If I got married like my farm mate, Jaime Coming, at 16, Lawrence Ll. Cruz known better as Kiko, would be younger than my eldest son.
This man, Kiko is destined to be a leader of government in the context of what the creator did to other leaders before him.
In the history of Iligan, Kiko was the only politician who served undefeated for 28 years, from Kabataang Barangay Chairman until his last term as City Mayor barred him from running for another term.
A Democratic leader must listen to the voice of the people for it is the basic foundation of democracy.
Elected officials who impose their own voices instead of listening to the voice of the people will not last.
Marcos tried to do it, but he ended in disgrace.
Let Marcos be a lesson to all aspiring politicians. They must realize that not their voices but those of the people must be heard.
If they pretend to be the servants of the people during the election campaign only to become the masters afterwards, they will never last.
