Marawi City Division Holds Athletic Meet

Marawi City, Lanao del Sur, November 8, 2015
The City Schools Division of Marawi City opened its 5-day Palarong Panlungsod, Sunday, November 8 with the theme, “Peace and Unity: Key to Education Building and School Development.”
Led by Schools Division Superintendent Mona A. Macatanong, the Opening Program started with a Street Parade along the major thoroughfares of Marawi City that ended in the Division Quadrangle in barangay Kilala.
The Guest Speaker was 103rd Infantry Brigade, Philippine Army, Commander Col. Roseller G. Murillo, represented by 65th Infantry Battalion, PA, Commander Lt. Col. Ruben Matillano.
In his speech, Matillano expounded on the value of Athletic Meets in inculcating discipline and healthy competition and the realization that in any competition there are always winners and losers.
“It teaches the values of humility for the winners and the acceptance of defeat without losing one’s honor for those who lost,” he said.
Mayor Fahad Salic in his message delivered in Filipino and the native tongue expressed the importance of Athletic Meets in developing sportsmanship among the youth who will someday become the leaders of the country.
He said the City government is always giving as much support as it can afford to the Division of City Schools because of its meaningful role in moulding the youth especially that in this rapidly changing world education is very important for individuals to be able to keep abreast of the changing times.
In hasty meeting with the press after the program, Mayor Salic told newsmen that there is an ongoing misunderstanding between the City Schools Superintendent and top officials of DepEd –ARMM.
“The local government is not involved in it but it supports whoever is sitting as Schools Division officials because, we are concerned with the welfare and well-being of our children,” he said.
Schoolls Division Superintendent Mona A. Macatanong led an awarding Plaques of appreciation to deserving individuals.
She was assisted by Assistant to the Schools Division Superintendnt Sultan Haron M. Abato, East District Supervisor and Assistant to the Division Superintendent Dr. Roca-Dalilah M. Dimal and Division Athletic Coordinator Mr. Allanodin A. Barodi.
Dr. Dimal declared the formal opening of the 2015 Marawi City Palarong Panlungsod.
