ILIGAN CITY - After attending the Regional Convention of the Philippine Nurses Association here October 1, the lone Representative in Congress of the Ang Nurse Party-List held a consultation meeting with the Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) in the city at the covered court of Iligan Medical Center College next day, October 2.
Congresswoman Lea Primitiva S. Paquiz listened to the problems and concerns of the health workers.
It is of common knowledge that BHWs who gave primary health care at the barangay level are either unpaid volunteers or contractual workers.
Paquiz told the BHWs that she has filed House Bill No. 3925, otherwise known as the Barangay Health Workers and Services Reform Act.
She said that some of the salient features of the bill provide for the granting of regular salaries at least at Grade Level 1 and security of tenure to Barangay Health Workers.
She said she is confident that the bill can be passed into law if all the health workers in the country from Doctors to BHWs will unite and come out with one voice.
In the present Congress only the Ang Nurse Party-List is representing the Heath Workers and the said party has only won one seat in the legislature.
Paquiz encourage all health workers to join and be a member of Ang Nurse Party-List to strengthen their representation in the House of Representative. TNRS
