Over 400 youth leaders in NorMin conven for 41st PYAP
TUBOD, LANAO DEL NORTE – 425 youth leaders throughout northern Mindanao attended the 41st regional convention of Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP) held at the sprawling Mindanao Civic Center complex, Brgy. Sagadan, Tubod town, this province.
The event was organized by the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte through its Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO).
Participants came from the cities and provinces of Region 10 including Ozamiz City, El Salvador City, Cagayan de Oro City, Gingoog City, Malaybalay City, Valencia City, Tangub City, and Iligan City.
“We are very happy to host this gathering of young leaders to help empower them become positive influences to their peers and in their communities”, expressed PSWDO Head Anabelle Mendez.
The convention started with a motorcade around capital town Tubod while several advocacy forums were conducted on the succeeding days.
Among the topics discussed during the three-day convention were national government’s anti-drug campaign, importance of a healthy lifestyle, basic life support, dangers of HIV, responsible parenthood and reproductive health.
Representatives from PNP, Provincial Health Office, Philippine Red Cross - Lanao del Norte Chapter, and Provincial Population Office were tapped as resource persons.
Delegates also joined in different competitions like basketball, volleyball, poster making, essay writing, sulong dunong, pop dance, vocal solo, and search for Mr. & Ms. PYAP.
Prizes and freebies were given to the winners and participating contestants.
Also present to witness the opening ceremony were representatives from the National Youth Commission, Sangguniang Panlalawigan members, personnel from DSWD Region 10, POPCOM, PHO, Philippine Red Cross, Provincial Police Office, Provincial and Municipal Tourism Offices, Provincial Planning Office, PCAO and PIO.
