Dateline Iligan. LGU HELPS KIWALAN FAMILIES CAUGHT IN BETWEEN SARIP-LAFARGE CONFLICT

The City government of Iligan has set things ready to help 22 families affected by the conflict between the Sarip Clan and LaFarge Cement Corporation in barangay Kiwalan.

Housing and Resettlement Office Head Reynaldo Roque of the Office of the City Mayor disclosed that their Office will insure that the affected families will be relocated where they can have permanent residents.

He said that they have coordinated with LaFarge Cement for the orderly relocation of the said families to Gawad Kalinga, Dalipuga, a project jointly established by the City Government and Gawad Kalinga during the administration of former Mayor Lawrence Ll. Cruz.

It was learned that LaFarge will provide the transportation needed by the families and their belongings in moving to Gawad Kalinga-Dalipuga.

The local government of Iligan has been working jointly with Gawad Kalinga since the administration of former Mayor Franklin Quijano when Gawad Kalinga- Missionville was established in Canaway to accommodate the victims of the fire that struck Purok 1 in Saray, 2001.

Engagements with Gawad Kalinga slowed down since July 2013 when the new administration opted to grant P20.5 Million to Roman Catholic Church-based Community Builders Foundation for building shelters of Sendong survivors on a land owned by the Diocese of Iligan in barangay Buruun.
