Now is the right time to ask constituents on BBL - CSOs

Various civil society organizations (CSOs) and peace advocacy groups said the time is ripe now for the conduct of surveys on the people’s sentiments on the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) and the Mamasapano incident.
In a statement they issued to the media on Monday, May 4, the group said that peoples’ emotions caused by the incident in Mamasapano last January 24 have already dampened.
They added that the people now have acquired enough information on the proposed law.
“Millions of Filipinos watched the broadcasted deliberations on the BBL and the investigations by the Senate on the Mamasapano. After the conclusions of these deliberations, it is high time now to ask our constituents of their sentiments to the BBL and the incident,” the CSOs said in their statement.
Recent surveys on the BBL and the Mamasapano incident were conducted during the height of their deliberations in congress.
The Pulse Asia Survey released last March 19 their surveys on the subject that were conducted from the period of March 1 to 7.
In the survey, Pulse Asia said nearly half of Filipinos or 44 percent of the 1,200 respondents opposed the passage of the BBL, 36 percent were undecided and 21 percent favored for the enactment of the proposed law.
The same survey also said that 88 percent of the respondents are aware about the BBL.
The other survey group, the Social Weather Station (SWS) recently announced it will present to the public the result of their survey on BBL and Mamasapano come May 15.
The CSOs affirmed that the Filipino people have already enough information on BBL and Mamasapano as stipulated in the Pulse Asia survey.
With the complete information they received, the CSOs believe that people now can comprehensively ventilate their views and opinions on the BBL and the Mamasapano incident.
