NGCP intensifies line safety campaign in Mindanao
Power grid operator NGCP continues to reach out to barangay and other local officials to spread the message about taking care of power transmission lines to ensure the public’s safety in local communities.
As part of its proactive measures to address right-of-way (ROW) issues and to prevent trippings and accidents, NGCP participates in the regular sessions of the Association of the Barangay Council (ABC), Sangguniang Bayan (SB), and Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP).
Emmanuel D. Abellanosa, NGCP’s Mindanao Operation and Maintenance Regional Head, led the campaign to increase awareness of transmission line safety and anti-pilferage measures among the 44 barangay chairs of Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur. Mayor Boen Dorotheo R. Cabahug was also present at the briefing which was conducted as part of the Ugnayan sa Barangay/Municipal Development Council (MDC) Meeting.
The Municipality of Aurora hosts NGCP’s Aurora Substation, which serves seven power customers in Mindanao; Aurora-Pagadian-San Miguel 69-kV Line; Aurora-Kapatagan 69-kV Line; Agus 5-Aurora 138-kV Line; Baloi-Aurora 138-kV Line; and Aurora-NagaMin 138-kV Lines 1 & 2.
At the end of the activity, the barangay officials committed to share NGCP’s line safety reminders to the residents of their respective communities.
NGCP reiterates its commitment to prevent accidents and outages and appeals to the public to respect ROW clearances to ensure the reliability of the entire grid.
Violating safety clearances will be detrimental not just to NGCP’s technical operations, but also to public safety. To ensure the safety of residents and to prevent electrocution, accidents, and power interruptions, planting of trees, building of houses and structures, kite-flying, and other unsafe practices near and around power lines are discouraged.
NGCP is a privately owned corporation in charge of operating, maintaining, and developing the country’s power grid. It transmits high-voltage electricity through “power superhighways” that include the interconnected system of transmission lines, towers, substations, and related assets. The consortium, which holds the 25-year concession contract to operate the country's power transmission network, is comprised of Monte Oro Grid Resources Corp. led by Henry Sy, Jr., Calaca High Power Corporation led by Robert Coyiuto, Jr., and the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) as technical partner.
