Iligan Sanggunian raises ICPO budget
The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) of Iligan increased the budget of the Iligan City Police Office (ICPO) following the appearance of Acting City PNP Director PSSupt Leony Roy Ga during its last regular session early this week.
It may be recalled that the SP in an unprecedented move acceded to the request of the City Mayor through an Executive-Legislative Liaison to reconsider its decision to pass the 2014 Annual Appropriation Ordinance.
The Chief Executive wanted some changes in the said budget.
In the meantime a special order was issued for the appearance of the Acting City Director to apprise the SP of the state of the peace and order in the City following reports of disappearances and unsolved killings reported in the local Media almost daily.
Records of the SP revealed that PSSupt Leony Roy Ga stated that only two abductions had been reported to the ICPO during the recent weeks.
Ga also mentioned that though they have recently received the recently acquired vehicles for the ICPO, their mobility is limited by the inadequate budget for fuel.
After Ga’s appearance, the SP on unanimous motion decided to increase the budget for the ICPO from around P2 Million to P6 Million.
This increase was immediately reflected in the reconsidered Appropriations Ordince.
The SP unanimously agreed that the ICPO must be supported in order to be effective in its campaign against crime.
It can also be recalled that during an interview with the New Ranao Star, Ga mentioned that it is better to concentrate on crime prevention because crime solution is always difficult.
Mobility of the police is considered to be an essential element in the effective and efficient operations of the PNP. RANAO STAR
