Cotabato City to receive Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance
COTABATO CITY, Nov. 5 (PIA) – After the Local Government Unit (LGU) here initiated various child-friendly activities for the Children's Month, the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) will award the Seal of Child Friendly Local Governance to the city government of Cotabato.
With the theme, “Bata Kasali Ka, Ikaw ay Mahalaga”, the city government has successfully conducted the lined up activities like the day care ethnic-socio cultural competitions, search for Day Care Child 2014 and forums intensifying campaign against bullying and promotion on recognition and respect for children’s law and rights participated by the children representing the 37 barangays of the city.
Cotabato City Mayor Japal “Jojo” Guiani said, the city has been a regional awardee in the Seal of Child Friendly Local Governance that qualifies the city for the Presidential award for 10-20 municipalities and cities.
“This year, Cotabato City Government has allotted P5.8 million from the Annual Investment Program of the city for the programs to be benefited by the children," Guiani said.
These funds, he added, are lodged with the Office of the Social Welfare and Development (OSWD) tasked in the implementation of programs, projects and services for the welfare and care of many children in various barangays.
The city government has also created the Inter Agency Committee against trafficking and violence against women and children to ensure enforcement of pertinent laws to protect and safeguard and respect the rights of women and children.
The Seal of Child Friendly Local Governance is another citation given to Cotabato City after having been ranked 39th as Most Competitive City and included in the top 3 finalists for Most Business- Friendly City. (IEroy/PBC/PIA Cotabato City)
