PARTNERS LAUNCH “MY PEACE,” “VOCEP” PROGRAM

ILIGAN CITY – The Embassy of the United States of America in partnership with Naawan HELPS (Helps, Empowers, Liberates, Protects & Strengthen) Communities, Inc., and Iligan City National High School with the participation of USG Alumni- Lanao and Misamis Oriental launched last October 15 “MY PEACE (Madaris Youth Promoting English Advancement for Community Empowerment).”

Under the program Madrasah School students are given assistance in the advancement of their proficiency in the English Language through educational materials.

Dr. Rolly Cuizon of Iligan City National High School said that initially, the US Embassy provided computers for the students.

On the other hand, VOCEP (Voluntarism on Community Engagement Program) 2014-2015 was launched on the same day at the Ground Floor of College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) Building of MSU-IIT.

VOCEP is a joint program of the MSU-IIT Department of Extension and the United States Embassy in Manila.

According to Dr. Nimfa Bracamonte, the program involves voluntarism on community service.

She said that young graduates are trained and deployed as volunteers to partner NGOs/POs to engage in community development.

Students enrolled in Community Organizing Course are required to render 10 to 20 hours of Community Service under the program, she added.

Volunteer Lawyers and Law students also assist in developing partner communities by providing legal and skills enhancement activities under the program, it was learned.
