MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur: The 49th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army on Thursday expressed its appreciation to the local government unit of the municipality of Taraka, Lanao del Sur in her staunch support to the campaign against illegal drugs.

During the meeting on Thursday of the Municipal Peace and Order Council (MPOC) at the town hall complex, LTC Edgar Allan Villanueva, 49th IB commander, presented to Prof. Nashiba Gandamra-Sumagayan, Taraka municipal mayor, a plaque of appreciation in recognition and appreciation of her undying support to the Philippine Army 49th IB campaign to eradicate the use of illegal drugs and other forms of criminalities.

Villanueva expressed also his thanks to the local government unit of Taraka for putting up of a police checkpoint along the highway because it helps them (49th IB) a lot in carrying out their operations.

He said their operations are in the Sultan Dumalondong, Lumbaca Unayan, Lumbatan and Pagayawan Complex, and that checkpoint is very helpful to them.

“One of the mandates of the Armed Forces, which is very clear in Martial Law, is to dismantle all drug syndicates,” Villanueva said.

Although that is the mandate of the PNP and the PDEA, the AFP will still support it.

“That’s why we have the LESO or Law Enforcement Support Operations,” he said.

When an operation is conducted jointly by the AFP and the PNP, it is called LESO.

Villanueva said the AFP supports the police in its anti-illegal drug and anti-criminality mandates. (RSP)
