When Principal Rocaya Umpar of Dilabayan Primary School delivered her SOSA or State of the School Address recently, she started recalling the state of the school at the time she assumed as its Teacher-In-Charge.

Speaking to fellow educators, guests and participants in a SOSA program held last July 31, 2018 at the Quadrangle of Bacolod Central Elementary School in this municipality, Principal Umpar said when she assumed as TIC principal of Dilabayan Primary School with the support of her supportive District Supervisor, the school had only one building that could hardly accommodate Grade I and II classrooms. She said she took this as a challenge.

Part of her speech follows:

BACKGROUND

Dilabayan Primary School was established in 1992 in Barangay Dilabayan, Bacolod Kalawi, Lanao del Sur. It is located between two populated barangays, Awani and Pindulonan, and is some five kilometers away from Lake Lanao.

Dilabayan lies west of Barangay Awani and Pindulonan, If you go to the Municipality of Madalum, it is second to the last Barangay Pindulonan. It is bounded to the North by Barangay Rara, in the south by Lake Lanao.

Dilabayan Primary School has four assigned itemized teachers and one ALIVE teacher...

Pupils beyond Grade IV are schooling at Awani Elementary School while the rest at Pindulonan Elementary School which are both nearest to Barangay Dilabayan.

ACTIVITIES

Size doesn’t matter, Dilabayan Primary School is merely a primary school but due to the unwavering support of my co-teachers and the active participation of the neighborhood in Barangay Dilabayan, we have implemented successful activities including:

1. A yearly successful Brigada Eskwela Activities. Our community residents, especially parents, are spearheading major clean-up activities, so this is my opportunity to express my gratitude and may you continue to support our school as we in Dilabayan Primary School, consistently do our part as teachers of your children.

2. Dilabayan Primary School conducted a house to house campaign for early registration.

3. Bilang isang school head at may malasakit sa mga bata ay namimigay kami ng school supplies sa aming mag aaral.

4. Dilabayan Primary School conducted a regular PTCA meeting upang magkaroon ng better understanding and harmonious relationship between the parents and the stakeholders.

5. To improve the academic performance of our children, our school implemented the school-based feeding program for the identified malnourished children last year to present faithfully implemented with the support of the authorized District Nurse.

STRENGTHENING BEST PRACTICES

My dear parents in view of our strong determination, Dilabayan Primary School has been painstakingly strengthening its best practices to be able to accomplish the following:

1. Continuous conduct of coaching and mentoring based on the needs of teachers during the classroom observation conducted by the principal and the district supervisor.

2. Adapt the READ ALLL programs and strategies particularly the assessment tools abecedarian and RARS as well as the ORFA teacher in reading comprehension.

3. Develop assessment and periodical graphs result as basis for remedial and enhancement session of pupils.

4. Administer the abecedarian tool in Identifying nonreaders.

5. Observe teachers following the monthly classroom observation plan.

6. Regularly check teachers report every week and submit the consolidation to the District every end of the month.

7. Facilitate SLACS session in our school based on the needs of teachers in teaching.

8. Recognize the teachers and given an award to the deserving teachers for every teacher’s day.

ACCOMPLISHMENT

Based on the 3 years SIP of Dilabayan Primary School, there were 5 identified priority improvement areas. And with the support of our District Supervisor, the Local Government Unit, our project in the school governance, we were able to successfully accomplish the following:

1. One makeshift building for kindergarten classroom built in 2011 with the support of our then Municipal Mayor Honorable Jaffar Dipatuan.

2. One modest Teacher Room built in 2012 with the support of our District Supervisor and the District teaching force.

3. A Comfort Room built in 2013.

4. A Wash Tub built in 2014.

5. A concrete fence of our school for the security of our school children and others involved.

6. A school stage.

We prioritized the above mentioned accomplished because it has direct relevance on improving the learning outcome of pupils and it can also increase enrollment.

INTERVENTION

For the past 3 years, Dilabayan Primary School is conducting an intervention program in form of remedial summer classes for the identified non-readers, and the new entrants' pupils.

As an institution of learning, we commit to being the best teachers of our pupils, to be the best partner of our stakeholders in all activities supportive of the learning progress, to be the best instrument of hope and peace in our municipality as a whole.

And this time this is my opportunity to extend my warmest gratitude to our supportive and thoughtful District Supervisor and to my co-teachers and the stakeholders who shared their support to us." - RSP
