Sansarona heads Marawi contingent to ARMMAA 2018

Marawi schools division superintendent Pharida L. Sansarona led the Marawi City contingent to the ongoing meet of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Athletic Association (ARMMAA) held at Upi, Maguindanao to show that despite the crisis that befell their city, they should not allow their students and pupils to be hindered in their aspiration for education excellence, be it in academic or sports.

It was a well-organized delegation and for the first time in the division's history when not a single contribution was solicited from the students, pupils, athletes and participants to a similar Palaro.

The Palaro will culminate on Friday.

Athletes from both elementary and secondary schools will compete in the following sports: archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, billiard, boxing, chess, football, futsal, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, wushu, and wrestling. 


Rasol Y. Mitmug, Jr., newly appointed Education (DepEd-ARMM) secretary, formally declared the 2018 region-wide athletic meet open. Themed ‘Transformed and Productive ARMMians,’ the meet focuses on the active development and transformation of the region’s young athletes.

More than 5,000 participants, comprising of student-athletes, DepEd officials from the nine school divisions of the region namely Maguindanao I, Maguindanao II, Lanao del Sur I, Lanao del Sur II, Marawi City, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Basilan, and Lamitan City attended the Palarong ARMMAA which is an annual athletic event of the DepEd ARMM involving student-athletes from the region.

The emerging winners from those events will proceed and compete at the Palarong Pambansa in Ilocos Sur. (With story from Bureau of Public Information)
