Since the start of Ramadan last June 6, a nightly Ramadhan Program and Trade Fair of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) is conducted at the ARMM’s Compound to provide wholesome entertainment and service to the people.

One or two ARMM agencies host a night of the thirty-day Program and Trade Fair with Islamic activities which are both religious and entertaining.

In the nightly program, ARMM Governor Mujiv S. Hataman through the ARMM HEART gives away rice to residents of various barangays in the region to help them perform their fasting during the month of Ramadan.

Ms. Sahara Ali of ARMM HEART who facilitated the distribution of rice last Tuesday (June 21) said that some 5 to 10 kilos of rice are given to residents of different barangays in the region who attend the nightly program.

She said the distribution of rice is done through raffle draw and the names that would be drawn receive the several kilos of rice.

She said the distribution of rice is done by the ARMM HEART, one of the agencies of the regional government. She said the sponsoring office in last Tuesday’ program were the Office of the Southern Cultural Communities (OSCC) and the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB).

The holy month of Ramadhan or fasting is performed in accordance with the universal and time honored tradition of Islam believers, done for the Glory of God and in the service of humanity. During Ramadhan, Muslim faithfuls abstain from food and drink for 30 days from dawn to sunset, pray and undergo sacrifices. Fasting is one of the five (5) pillars of Islam, the others being, belief in the oneness of God, pilgrimage to Mecca, giving alms to the poor and praying five (5) times a day. The New Ranao Star
