SP Committee Chairman on Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation (DRR-CCA) Councilor Frederick W Siao told newsmen that the said officials were trained so that they could also train people in their respective barangays to make the latter prepared for calamities especially floods.
Representatives of the following barangays participated in the said training: Bag-ong Silang, Mahayahay, Poblacion, Saray, Sto. Rosario, Tibanga, Villaverde, Santiago, Tambacan, San Miguel, Del Carmen, Luinab, Palo, San Roque, Tubod, Ubaldo Laya, Upper Hinaplanon, Hinaplanon, Santa Felomina, Digkilaan, Bonbonon, Acmac, Tipanoy, Mandulog, Rogongon, Abunom Pugaan ug Lanipao.
Siao said that he hopes the participants will use their knowledge and skills so that their constituents will also be prepared in times of floods.
During the training, the participants were familiarized with climate adjusted flood hazard maps that were made through the Project Climate Change Twin Phoenix “Project” and the Climate Change Commission.
It was aimed that the trainees will be able to measure and assess danger or risk and their implication on the preparedness of the community to respond and be resilient in times of floods.
The activity was supported by the “Project” and made part of the efforts of the local government to create a Flood Contingency Plan.
After typhoon Sendong 2011, the City government is tightening on preparations for such a calamity by empowering the barangays and its population.
