ILIGAN CITY: Private schools in Marawi City have tendered a thanksgiving kandori here on Saturday in honor of Pharida Lamping Sansarona for being re-designated as schools division superintendent of Marawi City Division by the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education of Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MBHTE-BARMM).

It shall be recalled that Lanao del Sur has three school divisions namely, Lanao del Sur 1, Lanao del Sur 2 and Marawi City divisions.

Education minister Mohagher Iqbal designated an OIC schools superintendent for Lanao del Sur 2 in the person of Dr. Rubina Mimbantas Macabunar while for Lanao del Sur 1, Iqbal has taken over its management and placed therein a focal person.

Sansarona, however, has been retained still the schools division superintendent of Marawi City by the MBHTE-BARMM.

Marawi City Private Schools Association president Engr. Rasid M. Paca explained the re-designation of Sansarona is a blessing to all private schools in Marawi City. In fact, he said “Sansarona is a blessing to all of us, not only the private schools.”

Paca said during the term of Sansarona as Marawi SDS, quality of education among Maranao students has tremendously improved. Many Maranaos, he added, made it to the top in government exams.

In the Mindanao State University, he said that before, Maranao students were minority in the number of enrollees because th quality of education was not at par with the non-Maranaos who enrolled in the university.

“Today, more or less 75 per cent are Maranaos,” he said.

Paca said when they heard of Sansarona’s re-designation, “We are happy because we know of her performance.”

Paca said the program is a voluntary act of the member-private schools. “Nobody has influenced us to do it or to contribute,” he added.

The thanksgiving kandori is a joint initiative of the Marawi City Private Schools Association and the Philippine Federation of Madaris. (RSP)
