MARAWI CITY: Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo of the House of Representatives led a group of congressmen coming from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) that visited recently the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the invitation of Dr. Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Ibrahim Al Sheik, President of the Kingdom’s Majilis Al Shura or Consultative Assembly.

Accompanying Arroyo are members of the House Committee on Muslim Affairs, among them, representatives Mauyag B. Papandayan Jr., Macmod D. Mending Jr., Amelhida J. Sangcopan, Bai Sandra A. Sema, Ruby M. Sahali and Shenee A. Tan.

The official visit was aimed at helping the Muslims in Mindanao as the new Bangsamoro entity is ensured to be implemented immediately after the second plebiscite is conducted on February 6.

The February 6 plebiscite will be held in Lanao del Norte asking voters if they want the province’ 6 towns to be included in the new BARM. They are Balo-i, Munai, Nunungan, Pantar, Tagoloan and Tangkal.

North Cotabato will also vote on February 6 plebiscite if they will allow the inclusion of the 67 villages of the province to the new Bangsamoro entity.

Arroyo considered the passage of the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) as a good opportunity for an investment mission to enable the representatives from Mindanao to look for investors for their region.

Arroyo’s team was able to meet officials of Saudi Arabia General Investment Authority (SAGIA) as well as the Council of Saudi Arabia Chamber of Commerce to explore business.
