Marawi LGU thanks Japan, UN Habitat, SHFC for their support to Marawi rehab

MARAWI CITY: The local government of the Islamic city of Marawi has expressed thanks to the government of Japan, the United Nations Habitat, the SHAFC, the Task Force Bangon Marawi and all those who came to the side of Marawi for their assistance to the rehabilitation of the sieged city.

In welcoming dignitaries, participants and stakeholders to the launching of the United Nations Habitat program, "The Rebuilding Marawi Through Community-Driven Shelter and Livelihood Project," City administrator Sultan Camid Gandamra said the local government of Marawi has been greatly concerned with what happened to the city.

"When the Marawi Siege almost two years ago destroyed the large part of the city, it destroyed the homes of thousands and many had been left without both shelter and livelihood, the Marawi LGU had been greatly concerned and we still are over this problem and made its business to look for solutions with the assistance of those who wanted to help with their initiative," he said.


Last year, the UN-Habitat and its partners came to the Marawi LGU with the intention of helping the Marawi IDPs through housing and livelihood initiative, "The Rebuilding Marawi Through Community-Driven shelter and Livelihood Prooject." It is to build a community that has both shelters and livelihood. 2 of the most pressing needs of the IDPs.

The one day launch, held at Barangay Dulay Proper in Marawi, included a ceremonial ground-breaking and capsule-laying. 

Guests included the Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines H.E. Koji Haneda and his Secretaries, UN Habitat Country Programme Manager Christopher Rollo, SHFC President Arnolfo Ricardo Cabling, JICA Philippines Chief Representative Yoshio Wada and his executive staff, Task Force Bangon Marawi manager Asec Fidel Castro Jr. as well as local leaders of Marawi City.
