MANILA: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will hold a special voters' registration for persons with disabilities (PWDs) and senior citizens on Wednesday in connection with the forthcoming May 2019 midterm polls.

The special registration activity will be held nationwide in all city/municipal Offices of the Election Officer.

With this, the poll body urged senior citizens and PWDs to avail of the one-day special registration.

“Here’s to pursuing a more inclusive electoral exercise. Magpa-rehistro na!” said the poll body in its Twitter account, @COMELEC.

Earlier, the poll body has called on the vulnerable sector to declare themselves as such when they register as voters for next year’s election.

It noted the importance of such information for PWDs and senior citizens to be able to have access to accessible polling places (APPs) on Election Day.

APPs are defined as special precincts for persons needing special assistance, located at the ground floors of the school buildings, where the elections are being conducted.

In the 2016 national and local elections, there were a total of 6,695,251 senior citizen voters and 318,013 PWD voters, based on the poll body's records. (PNA)
