Lanao del Sur II, DepEd-ARMM hold literary, art competitions for teachers


MARAWI CITY: The schools division of Lanao del Sur II, in cooperation with Atty. Rasol Y. Mitmug, Jr., secretary of the Department of Education-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DepEd-ARMM), conducted the First Lanao Sur II Literary and Arts Competitions for Teachers held at the Social Hall of the Provincial Capitol Complex here on April 24-25, 2018.


Held for the first time in Lanao del Sur, the theme of the program is "Re-engineering Education in Lanao Del Sur II by Unleashing the Full Potential of a HERO.”

In her welcome message, LDS II focal person Imelda P. Balt said the program is a showcasing of the talent of the teachers," adding that, "We  do not know the potentials of our teachers, that they can be good speakers or artists."

In line with providing good education to the learners, Balt said: "We are doing our best to develop our pupils" referring through developing and improving the talents of the teachers.

She lamented that many of the teachers in the division were not able to attend as the announcement about the competitions was made through the social media particularly Facebook.

Program proponent Education Supervisor II Waisah S. Arsad bared the general guidelines and mechanics of the competition as follows:

1. The competition is open to all Elementary, Junior High, Senior High faculty under the division of Lanao del Sur II. 

2. Each participating school must select their respective contestants to compete on the said event. 

3. All the participants is highly encouraged to wear Maranao inspired attire. 


4. The competition is divided into the following categories: 

a. Oration 
b. Kataro sa lalag 
c. Extemporaneous speech 
d. Short story writing 
e. Poster making 

5. Each category has its own rules and regulations. 

6. Double entry is not allowed. It means 1 participant per category for each school. All in all there will be 5 official contestants per school to cover the aforementioned categories. 

7. Any form of cheating is strictly prohibited. Any school that violates the given standards will be disqualified in joining the competition. 

8. At the end of the competition, all winners on each category shall be proclaimed as 2nd runner up, 1st runner up, and champion respectively. The winners will receive medals, trophies and certificates. 

9. The Division office will give a special prize to the school/district who obtained the most number of wins.


The event was graced by prominent local personalities such as former Madamba municipal mayor Usman T Sarangani who is Paramount Sultan of Mindanao, MSU System Executive Aleah Pacalna Cali-Pascan, MCD Supervisor Rufaida Grace Galo, LDS 1 Supervisor Noraida Mecampong, women CSO leader Atty. Padoman Paporo, Provincial PIO Norfaidah Malawani, provincial PIO Mariam D. Hadji Malik, EPS-1 LSII Dr. Samina C. Mamao, MSU Associate Professor Haroun A. Pangcoga, Educator and Youth Advocator Hayan L. Maradia, BCH-ARMM Musalik P. Kabunto. 

The prominent guests also acted as judges of the competitions. - RSP
