The schools division head of Marawi expressed her division's gratitude  to the Department of Education family headed in the national by Secretary Leonor Briones and in the autonomous region by Regional Secretary John Magno for the success of the Brigada Eskwela 2017 held at the Amai Pakpak Central Elementary School  (APCES) last Wednesday.

Schools Division Superintedent Pharida L. Sansarona said she is also extending her gratitude and that of her staff and teachers to all those "who have stood-by with us during these most challenging times."

The full force Brigada Eskwela 2017 kicked off the opening of school classes in Marawi which were disrupted by the Siege since May 23, 2017 that lasted six months.

DepEd Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones led officials from the DepEd central office. Various regional and division officals in the country also came all along to mark the historical school opening ceremonies.

Despite bad weather, Secretary Magno and his assistant secretaries, arrived earlier to welcome Briones and company and to actively assist and participate in the activity.

In her opening remark, Sansarona said officials and teachers of her division have mixed emotions.

She said some are happy because at last they have comeback while others sad because they have no more homes to return to with their houses devastated.

"But we leave that to Allah," she said.

Sansarona emphasized that Marawians are brave and "We are brave because you are all there for us," referring to the government, especially the DepEd officials, the international partners, as well as local officials and NGOs.

In thanking the DepEd officials for their full support, she made special mention of Regional Secretary Magno who downloaded Php 400 Thousand to spend for the occasion.

Around 50 schools in the city now recovering from the May 23 siege are to open classes.

Briones and the DepEd officials were to visit the different schools after the kick off program. (RSP)
