ZAMBOANGA CITY, June 29 --The Department of Health (DOH) has set aside PHP14 million to renovate an infirmary in a far flung barangay of this city.

City Health Officer Rodelin Agbulos on Thursday said up for renovation is the Cristino Paragas Memorial Hospital in Barangay Quiniput, 44.70 kilometers east of city hall.

The 15-bed memorial hospital is a city government-run hospital. It is manned by four physicians and nine nurses on 24/7 duty.

After renovation, Agbulos said they plan to upgrade the hospital from infirmary to a primary hospital to better serve the community.

The barangay of Quiniput where the memorial hospital is located is adjacent to Barangay Curuan, which is one of the growth and trading centers in the east coast of this city.

Meanwhile, Agbulos disclosed that three lying-in hospitals located in Barangays Ayala, Sangali and Vitali will be upgraded next year into infirmaries.

He said an allocation of PHP27 million has been included in this city’s 2018 proposed budget for the upgrading of the three lying-in hospitals. (RGAAG/PNA)
