Iloilo City boarders, transients need to present IDs

ILOILO CITY, June 23 -- Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog of this city (time) on Wednesday convened the Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) and reviewed the security protocol.

In the meeting, the members discussed how the city’s existing security protocols could be strengthened amid the threats posed by the continuous war in Marawi City, the recent attack of the New Peoples’s Army in Maasin, Iloilo and the clash between alleged NPA and government troops in Leon, Iloilo.

In a separate interview, City Administrator Hernando Galvez said the mayor has encouraged boarding house owners to strictly check the identity of their lodgers and transient customer by asking them to present proof of identification.

Galvez said it was only an advisory from the mayor as it could not be imposed yet due to the absence of ordinance mandating such.

But Galvez said the mayor wanted the measure institutionalized. Thus, Mabilog has sought the help of the Iloilo City Council, through Councilor Reyland Hervias, Liga ng mga Barangay-Iloilo City president, to enact an ordinance that would impose such requirement.

“The ordinance would provide penalties to those who will not comply,” Galvez said.

The proposed measure is applicable at all times, Galvez said. (Maricyn A. De los Santos/PNA)
