Iligan-Lanao del Norte DAR marks Women's Month

The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in this City and Lanao del Norte observed Women’s Month and International Women’s Day which culminated last weekend with an Orientation on Republic Act 9262, more popularly known as the law penalizing Violence Against Women and Children and Women Empowerment.

PARPO II Jamil P. Amatonding, Jr. told this writer that their Office is observing Women’s Month every year.

This year, the theme of the celebration is “We Make Change” (for women), he said.
He also mentioned that Women’s Month and International Women’s Day will be celebrated again in the coming years by DAR, Iligan-Lanao del Norte because they have many women employees all of whom are being empowered in accordance with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Magna Carta for Women and other laws upholding the role of women in society.

The main resource person during the occasion was former ARMM Assemblywoman and current Commissioner of the Expanded Bangsamoro Transition Commission Samira Ali Gutoc – Tomawis who discussed extensively the provisions of R.A. 9710, otherwise known as the Magna Carta of Women.

A female member of the Iligan City Police Office masterfully discussed the Law on Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC).

Amatonding led all the Division Chiefs in giving Tokens of Appreciation to all the resource persons.

The program was closed by President of the DAR Employees Association Cairon S. Panondiongan.
