Marawi marks 13th national dental health month, heart month

Atty. Majul “MG” Usman Gandamra, mayor of the Islamic City of Marawi, led the city dual celebrations of the 13th National Dental Health Month and Heart Month organized by the City Health Office in coordination with Department of Health of Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DOH-ARMM), and Philippine Dental Association, Inc. (PDA), with special participation of Beta Sigma Fraternity & Sorority.

The opening program was held on February 13 at the city quadrangle.

February is dubbed as Dental Health Month as well as Month of Hearts.

This year’s 13th National Dental Health Month has a theme: “Ngiping Inaalagaan at Pinayayaman, Hatid ay Ngiting di Kukupas Kailanman,” while the Heart Month has the theme: “Gulay at Prutas Araw-arawin; Matamis, Mamantika, Maalat Hinay-hinayin.”

In his speech, City Mayor Majul Usman Gandamra commended Dr. Samsida Rakim Gandamra, the head of CHO-Dental Health Team, for initiating the event. He also congratulated members of PDA Marawi Chapter under its president Dr. Maharabansa B. Bugabong for their active participation in marking the occasion.

He also thanked all those who were present during the occasion.

The city mayor said he discourages the illegal practice of fake dental doctors, and urged the doctors to find new ways of educating the public in an efficient way. He enjoined them to be friendly with their patients and to educate children with oral health habits.

The lawyer mayor also urged the doctors to conduct more toothbrush drills in different schools and dental missions wherein the people can avail simple dental check-ups.

The program started with presentation of entrance of colors by cadets of the Senator Ninoy Aquino College Foundation.

After the invocation led by a CHO staff followed by singing of the National Anthem led also by another CHO Staff,

City Health Dental Team head Dr. Samsida Gandamra formally opened the program followed by Dr. Ali Dalidig, CHO head who discussed about the 13th national dental health month.

As part of the dual fete activities, all city employees are required to wear their athlete attire and encouraged to join the HATAW dance during the Opening Program which aims to motivate them to start a healthy lifestyle.

As part of the celebrations’ highlights, the city Health Office headed by Dr. Ali Dalidig awarded free 20 emulated teeth (Postiso) given to those whose names are selected in a raffle led by no less than the city mayor.
