The Tripartite Monitoring Team (TMT) for the Steam Generating Plant to be built by PowerSource Philippines Energy, Inc. (PPEI) within the compound of Republic Cement Corporation in Kiwalan, Iligan City was formed Monday, August 8, upon the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement at the Environment Monitoring Board (EMB), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Regional Office 10 in Cagayan de Oro City.

The TMT is composed of the DENR, PPEI, Department of Energy DOE), Local Government of barangay Kiwalan, Local Government of Iligan, Changing Lives with Action for Progress (CLAP) and Mindanao State University - Mindanao Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT).

The MOA was signed by Region 10 Director Sabdullah C. Abubakar, for DENR, Vice President Engr. Victor R. Ceniza for PPEI, Barangay Captain Antonio Alon, for Local Government Unit (LGU) of Kiwalan, City Mayor’s Office Chief of Staff Atty. Rafael Beneditos, for LGU of Iligan, Regional Director Engr. Manuel Llaneza for DOE, Mr. Ronilo Baculio for CLAP, and Dr. Shiela K. Ramos and Dr. Deuel Allen of MSU-IIT.

According to officials, DENR will be represented by Rebualam Amana on behalf of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Lanao del Norte during the actual monitoring activities of the TMT.

It was learned that the TMT shall see to it that PPEI will comply with all environmental laws such as the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act of 2004 (R.A. 9275), Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 (R.A. 9003), and R.A. 8749, 6969 and PD 1586.

DENR EMB 10 shall coordinate the activities of the PPEI Tripartite Monitoring Committee.

On the said occasion, members of the TMT were oriented on the laws pertaining to the functions of the TMT.
