TARAKA, Lanao del Sur -- Integration of Madaris Teachers in the DepEd Organization is the number one legislative measure that a young lawyer running for Assemblyman, representing the first district of Lanao del Sur in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARRM) aims to push.

In an interview with newsmen during the signing of the Peace Covenant in Taraka, Lanao del Sur last March 23, former Town Mayor Amenodin Sumagayan declared that he has many legislative measures in mind once elected Assemblyman.

However, Sumagayan emphasized that the most important piece of legislation that he wants to pursue is one that would put Madaris teachers on the same level as other Teachers of the Department of Education.

He observed that like other DepEd Teachers, Madaris Teachers are also teaching the youth and it is only fair that they would be treated equally with other teachers.

It was learned that there are thousands of Madaris Teachers in Madrasah Schools throughout ARMM whose salaries are much lower than DepEd Teachers. – The New Ranao Star -
