Macaayong is 7th MSUS regular president

Dr. Habib W. Macaayong assumed the leadership of Mindanao State University System (MSUS) Friday morning in a turn-over ceremony, done amiably and smoothly, and said to be among peaceful turn-overs of the university presidency, sans, however, messages heard from the two presidents on the occasion.

Macaayong, Professor 6 of the MSUS Graduate Schools in the main campus was appointed by President Benigno S. Aquino III on March 8, 2016 as new 7th Regular President of the University System with a fixed term of six years. He succeeded Dr. Macapado A. Muslim who held the presidency for about eight years.

Muslim was designated as acting president from January 4, 2008 to March 4, 2010. On March 5, 2010, then President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo appointed him as the 6th regular president of the University System. He ranked number 1 in the Search Committee. MSUS now has eleven campuses.

The appointment of Macaayong was welcomed by the Bangsamoro People and they expressed their thanks to President Aquino for appointing a qualified Bangsamoro educator as MSUS president.

Macaayong, together with his party, was accompanied by Muslim with some university officials to the Office of the President (OP) to familiarize himself with his office where the University officials was waiting to greet President Macaayong.

After a very brief photo operations, outgoing president Muslim left with followers apparently to pave way for Macaayong to start immediately doing his official functions as president. Macaayong then signed documents and papers that needed his signature.

After that President Macaayong met the deans and directors and other officials.

President Macaayong briefed them regarding his vision and plans, especially on financial operational management where new heads were appointed like, the Office of Personnel Offices, Budget and Cashier to ensure smooth and effective transactions that need to be address.

Professor Amer Pangandman, director of Administrative Services supported the statement of President Macaayong saying "the new leadership of MSU System put premium and emphasize student-centered administration so that laws, policies, rules, and pertinent government regulations be interpreted in favor of the students.

However, colleges, offices and units of the University (must) be responsible to implement measures, schemes and procedures that would at the same time uphold standards toward a world-class and international university."

Macaayong is not only an academician but also peace advocates who served as consultant for Bangsamoro Development at the same time member of the MILF Technical working work.

He finished his Doctor of Public Administration at the University of the Philippines (Diliman, Quezon City) in 1988-1992.

Activities and Societies: CPA Graduate student representative to the Supreme Student Government, UP Diliman, 1998-1990.

He finished his MPA, 1985 at Ateneo de Davao University, and MBA, 1986, Public Fiscal Administration and Business Management in 1979-1986.

He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Public Administration in 1971-1975, an undergraduate course at the Mindanao State University main campus. President, organization of the College of Community Development and Public Administration Student in 1974-1975.

He served as Professor of Management and Public Administration.

Macaayong is a staunch Peace Advocate, helping in the promotion of peace and socio-economic development in Mindanao and the Bangsamoro area in particular through human resource development, multi-sectoral cooperation research, situational assessment, project study, development planning and development program in implementation.

Among the positions he had held both public and private agencies are Faculty of the Graduate Schools of the Mindanao State University main campus for the last 36 years in service; Vice President for Academic Affairs, JPI-2003-2004; Vice President for Planning and Development, MSU main campus 1999-2001; Resident Manager of Marawi Resort Hotel Inc. 1980-1981.

He has published several books which he authored such as Small and Medium Enterprises Development in Lanao del Sur, MSU MSRC on March 13,1995; Trade and Investment in Globalized Setting: The Experience in Muslim Mindanao, PIDS, July 4, 2005; Study on the Impact of Globalization to Trade and Investment in Muslim Areas in the South; and Study on the Tourism Development in Marawi City: A Thesis Abstract ADDU Graduate School, Davao City.

Macaayong is an active member of the following organizations: UP Alumni Association, 1992; ADDU Alumni Association, 1975; MSU Faculty Association, 1961; Beta Sigma Fraternity Alumni Association, Lanao del Sur Provincial Chapter and Board of Directors member.

Macaayong also knows about Thesis writing, organizational change, Development Planning, Project Study, Leadership Training, Management Training, Peace Advocacy, Human Resource Training and Peace building.
