Tubod, Lanao del Norte – The provincial government of this fast-rising province recently launched the much-anticipated ‘Paskohan sa Lanao del Norte’ on December 8, 2015 at the Provincial Capitol grounds, Brgy. Pigcarangan, in capital town Tubod.

One of the highlights in the opening ceremony is the ‘Sayawit sa Pasko’ competition which was participated by different local government units, private sectors and national line agencies in the province.

The annual ‘Paskohan sa Lanao del Norte’ is organized by the provincial LGU through its Provincial Tourism Office (PTO).

“We would like to invite everyone to come visit the provincial capitol grounds and feel the Christmas spirit through the entries of our participants. Family and friends can witness the creative entries in our Christmas Tree contest, in the Christmas Belen contest, and Christmas Lantern contest”, urged PTO Head Minda Regis.

Winners in the ‘Sayawit sa Pasko’ include Kolambugan LGU (First Place), Lala National High School (Second Place) and MSU-Maigo School of Arts and Trade (Third Place). The provincial government also gave P25,000 to the grand winner, P20,000 to the 2nd Place winner, P15,000 to the 3rd Place winner as cash prizes. Non-winning teams received P10,000 as consolation prize in the competition.

Entries in the Christmas Tree contest, Christmas Belen contest, and Christmas Lantern contest were also initially judged during the opening ceremony. However, announcement of winners and awarding of prizes shall be on December 16, 2015 during the Culmination program of the ‘Paskohan’ event. There will be three winners in each contest.

“Our Paskohan event shows that here in Lanao del Norte, we respect each other’s religion and belief. If we recognize the religious celebrations in Islam, we also give equal recognition for special celebrations of our Christian population. This is one of the reasons why we have strong unity between Muslims and Christians here in Lanao del Norte”, explained Governor Khalid Dimaporo during the opening ceremony.

Participating groups were allowed to use any materials to create their contest entries in an attempt to capture the color and festivity of the Christmas celebration.

Another anticipated highlight is the Christmas Caroling “Daygon” contest which shall be held during the culmination program. The singing contest shall be open to all organizations or chorale groups.

For more information on the ‘Daygon’ contest, interested groups can contact or visit the Provincial Tourism Office at the Provincial Capitol complex, Brgy. Pigcarangan, Tubod.
