PowerSource Philippines Energy, Inc. (PPEI), the Power Generation Company that will soon put up a small, 20-megawatt steam power generating plant inside the compound of Republic Cement in Kiwalan, Iligan City, distributed Christmas Gift Checks to 8 elementary schools in the surrounding communities last December 8 at the Session Hall of Kiwalan Barangay Hall.

Engr. Victor Ceniza a Senior Official representing PPEI told the school principals and the barangay officials and employees present that the Company is giving these gifts as part of its continuing commitment to the Corporate Value of Social Responsibility.

As Chairman of the host barangay, Antonio Alon, underscored the contribution that the PowerSource Plant will soon be giving in terms of employment and livelihood opportunities.

Chairman Efren Semblante of Barangay Bunawan also welcome the employment opportunities that the Plant will soon create for the people of the adjoining communities.

School Principal Nilda Bacullo of Kiwalan Elementary School told this writer that she is convinced that the said Plant is safe to both the environment and people because it uses state-of-the art technology that must meet environmental rules and regulations of the government.

On his part Chairman Alon of Kiwalan told this writer that the Sangguniang Barangay is very grateful that PPEI recently gave two welding machines to help in their livelihood skills training for their unskilled human resources.

He said that one of the major reasons why people have no jobs is that they have no skills.

“If people are skilled even if they cannot be employed here, they can easily find employment elsewhere,” he said.

Recipients of the PPEI Gift Checks were the following: Kiwalan Elementary School represented by School Principal Ms. Nilda Bacullo, Dalipuga Central School by Principal Ms. Nieves Ebon, Kalubihon Elem. School by Ms. Venus Quirante, Acmac Elementary School by Principal Ms. Elsa Ignilan, Severo Sara Memorial School by Principal Mr. Edgardo P. David, Santa Filomena Central School by Mr. Neil Orellana on behalf of School Principal Dr. Esa L. Tefora, PH.D., and Linanut Elementary School by Ms. Lovely C.
