Dateline Iligan. IP REPRESENTATIVE SOONG TAKES SP SEAT

The representative to the Sangguninang Panlungsod of the Higaonon tribe in Iligan assumed office last Tuesday, October 8.

City Councilor Rolando “Datu Diamla” Soong appeared before the Sangguniang Panlungsod through a ritual of courtesy, thanks and prayer for blessings from “Magbabaya” or the Almighty.

He took his Oath of Office before the Presiding Officer Acting Vice-Mayor Providencio Abragan, Jr. in the presence of his immediate family and some Chieftains of the different villages in Barangay Rogongon.

He was greeted by the members of the 15th Council especially City Councilor Emmanuel Salibay who authored the ordinance implementing the Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative (IMPR) pursuant to the IPRA Law.

It was learned that Councilor Salibay will relinquish the Committee on Indigenous People and move for the assignment of the same to Councilor Soong.

In his acceptance speech, Soong expressed his thanks and appreciation for the present administration being the first in 65 years to recognize and accept a representative of the indigenous Higaonon tribe in the hall of the Sangguniang Panlungsod.

After the adjournment, Higaonon supporters of Soong offered a heavy meal to the SP Members, Media and all present during the session.
