Lasureco Consumers ask NGCP not to curtail light on prayer time

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur — Consumers of Lanao del Sur Electric Cooperative (Lasureco) have requested the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) to move the curtailment of power in the host community and franchise areas to 9 PM or to schedules not within office hours and not during prayer times between 6-8 PM, even as they expressed their gratitude to NGCP for the non-curtailment of light during the Holy Month of Ramadan “thereby allowing worship and fasting in a most convenient manner.”

In a letter addressed to Emmanuel D. Abellanosa, head of NGCPs Mindanao Operations and Maintenance, and copy furnished to The New Ranao Star, the consumers were thankful to NGCP for granting their request per stakeholder’s resolution dated June 25.

“In continuing to engage in a positive way to institute confidence building with our consumers, this is to request your office to IMPOSE CURTAILMENT OF POWER IN HOST COMMUNITY LANAO DEL SUR AND FRANCHISE AREAS TO 9 PM OR SCHEDULES THAT ARE NOT WITHIN OFFICE HOURS AND NOT DURING PRAYER TIMES BETWEEN 6-8 pm, which is also time for cooking and meal conducted by each household,” the letter stated.

The appeal is further supported by the INTERIM situation that the consumers said they are in. are in.

LASURECO is under a Taskforce created by the President introducing metering per household.

Its residents are mostly Muslims who are subject of a peace process between the Government and MILF.

The letter appeal further said: “The host community Lanao del Sur deserves preferential treatment in power supply in that it is the location of Lake Lanao which provides the energy needs of Mindanao.”

“May we further recommend that PRE-ADVANCED INFORMATION OF CURTAILMENT BE MADE AVAILABLE BY PUBLICATION IN LOCAL MEDIA AND OTHERWISE. This is because the residents (who belong to the poorest in the country) request that advanced information of curtailment be made available to the host community. They also request NGCP to set up a more a widespread communication to spread information about the curtailment through two way radio and engaging the IMAMS.

The letter of appeal was led by former assemblywoman Samira Gutoc of the Regional Legislative Assembly of Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (RLA-ARMM). Ranao Star
